Drug Uses

Diflucan is used to treat fungus infections in certain areas of the body.

 

General Information
This medicine works by damaging cell walls and inhibiting essential enzymes that fungal cells need to survive.

 

How Taken
Follow the directions given to you by your doctor or pharmacist. Fungal infections may return if you don’t take the medicine as long as you are supposed to. This medicine can be taken with or without food or milk. Avoid grapefruit juice. The tablet may be crushed if necessary.

Warnings/Precautions

  • DO NOT TAKE WITH SELDANE (terfenadine), HISMANAL (astemizole) or cisapride.
  • If you are taking birth-control pills, this medicine may decrease the effectiveness of you birth control pills. Use a back-up method of contraception while taking this medicine to avoid getting pregnant.

Missed Dose
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.

 

Storage
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.

 

Pregnancy/Nursing
If you are or plan on becoming pregnant, talk to your doctor about the benefits versus the risks of using this medicine while pregnant. For nursing mothers, this medicine is excreted in breast milk. If you plan to breast feed, talk to your doctor first.
